Castello Sonnino is a perfectly preserved historic wine estate that overlooks the Chianti Hills. Just 20 minutes from Florence, Volterra and San Gimignano on the road to Pisa and Livorno. It is composed of a 16th-century mansion that dates back to the 13th century, medieval, a fortified tower. It is part of ADSI (Associazione Dimore Storiche Italiane) and Case della Memoria. Today the property is the result of the commitment of Baron Alessandro and Baroness Caterina de Renzis Sonnino. They have restored the mansion, which contains the Sidney Sonnino Historical Archive. They founded the “Castello Sonnino International Education Centre,” which collaborates with American and Canadian Universities organizing study abroad programs. Castello Sonnino is one of the leading producers of Chianti Montespertoli D.O.C.G. and high quality olive oil.Castello Sonnino produces wine guided by the philosophy of the great “Chateaux”, choosing to work only with the grapes grown in its own vineyards, which extend over more than 40 hectares. The Sonnino wines have oodles of personality and character, fruit of the particular features of a terroir which since 1997 has been endowed with the specific denomination of Chianti Montespertoli D.O.C.G, the smallest of the Chianti denominations. The arrival of Baron Alessandro de Renzis Sonnino in 1987 opened up new horizons: the traditional Chianti grape varieties of Sangiovese and Canaiolo were joined by Merlot, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec
