about us

In 2016, we hit this now or never moment

Enzo was managing a restaurant since we came back to the States and I, Racheal, was working in business management. We both had this overwhelming urge to do something big. Enzo had this bright idea to become an Italian wine importer. He was dealing with these restaurant wine reps, and he would say, “We could do this.” Enzo felt confident in this revelation due to being a native Italian, his exposure to various wines, and his panache for selling quality products; he comes from a family of Italian shoemakers and worked in the business in much of his younger years.

I, on the other hand, thought he was a little bit crazy. And if I’m being completely honest, totally insane– what experience did I have in the wine industry, except for the fact that I really loved drinking it? I must admit, though, that I was intrigued by the idea. I thought to myself, if you want to do something big, you must do something big.” I got cracking on the research and analysis. After a few months, I reported back to the other half, “Yeah, I think we can actually do this!”

If you can’t guess, Enzo is the dreamer, and I am the reality check. While this dynamic is not often easy, we believe this energy proves synergistic and makes Righteous a stronger business.

The next couple of years were intense with wine education, business planning, licensing acquisitions, trade show hopping, and trips to Italy. We invested all the time we had and every penny we owned into building our business. Starting with forty-five labels from Italy, we have now grown to over two hundred and represent more than sixty wineries from Italy, France, and America
